“Inside the Led Zeppelin Bubble: John Paul Jones on Band Unity and Peter Grant’s Shield”

Excerpts of Jonesy talking about the band and Peter Grant – “How did the band interact on a personal level? It seemed like a very enclosed world, which added to the band’s mystique.’

The band was very close, which fostered a feeling of “us against them.” We knew what to do and we knew how to do it; beyond that, we didn’t want to be bothered. We had the same attitude while making our records. Our manager, Peter Grant, did a very good job of keeping everyone away from us, which allowed us to focus on our work.

There really isn’t any mystery. We always got on well. We never socialized all together when we weren’t touring, but we were always pleased to see each other. We never went through that bickering stage that you hear about other bands. We shared a professional state of mind. We were always reliable. You could probably count the number of gigs that were cancelled on one hand. We were always where we were supposed to be. – John Paul Jones
